Participated in two important events at the United Nations Headquarters in New York
The World President of Disabled Peoples’ International (DPI), Mr. Abdus Sattar Dulal, participated in two important events at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA: the Civil Society Forum (CSF) on June 8, 2026, and the 19th Conference of States Parties (COSP19) to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), held from June 9–11, 2026.
During my visit, I held formal meetings with 13 key stakeholders, including government delegations from France, the Netherlands, Sweden, the Republic of Korea, Finland, United States and Germany. Among them was the Minister from France. I also met with the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and representatives from UN OCHA. I met with several Civil Society Organizations Representatives including IDA President. In addition, I was invited to several ambassadorial receptions, spoke at side events, and delivered two three-minute general statements at both the Civil Society Forum and COSP19.
The total cost of this mission was USD 7,000, but its achievements and impact are immeasurable.
My friends, one thing makes me sad: many people do not acknowledge DPI’s significant contributions to the promotion of the rights and development in the world including development of the UNCRPD, the International Disability Alliance (IDA), and many of the achievements that the persons with disabilities and peoples of the world enjoys today. These successes are the result of the tireless efforts of DPI and its National Assemblies around the world. I am happy that DPI key motto added by UN secretary general in his speech “NOTHING ABOUT US WITHOUT US”.
I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Mr. Giampiero and DPI Europe for their generous support and Ms. Hannah Wolf assisted me in NY, which made my participation possible. I am also honored to have had formal meetings with 13 key stakeholders and delegations who listened to my perspectives and committed to strengthening their cooperation with DPI. It was also inspirational meeting with one of our comrades using wheelchair work in USA, Mr. Ali, he facilitates sightseeing event for me in NY. Thanks to Mr. Ali.
My friends, believe me, it is rare for someone to travel to the United States from Bangladesh and return within just four days. I stayed at POD51 hotel in NY. I am currently recovering from jet lag, but I wanted to let you know that I have returned home safely.
